About the International Centre for the Image
The International Centre for the Image is an innovative cultural venue situated in the Dublin Docklands, with a focus on photography and the visual arts. Operated by PhotoIreland, known for its impactful cultural projects both in Ireland and globally—including The Library Project, PhotoIreland Festival, and OVER Journal—the centre is set to open on Thursday, 17th July.
The centre will present a year-round schedule of exhibitions and cultural activities for both local communities and visitors, supported by the Arts Council of Ireland. The cultural offer includes an educational programme that connects audiences with the inspiring work of artists and curators. Visitors can look forward to a friendly and accessible venue that provides comfortable facilities, from the bookshop area to the gallery space, as well as a quiet library area.

Facilities: Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions and art bookshop during opening hours. The art library is a space for research and is accessible to everyone, although a prior appointment is recommended to secure access. The Atelier is a private space providing a workshop for artists and staff, and artist studios; the public can visit these only during scheduled Studio Visits.
How to Get Here: The International Centre for the Image is easily accessible on foot, by public transport, or by car. See Google Map here.
- By Luas: Take the Red Line Luas and alight at The Point stop. We are a 4-minute walk away.
- By Dublin Bus: The 151, G1, G2 and N4 buses stop in New Wapping Street. We are a 5-minute walk away.
- By car: From the city centre, we are approximately a 15-minute drive. There is paid on-street parking available and at the Point Square Car Park.
- By bike: There are various bike lanes bringing you into North Wall from all directions and many parking stands in the immediate area outside the centre.
Accessibility: The International Centre for the Image is a wheelchair accessible venue, and visitors with all access needs are welcome. To make your visit more enjoyable, please let us know in advance if you have specific requirements that you may need assistance with.
Mediation: If you require a guided visit or help with mediating the exhibitions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us in advance of your visit or ask one of our staff on site to help you.
Bathrooms: There are gender-neutral bathroom facilities available, including an adapted bathroom. There are no baby changing facilities currently available on site.
Resting areas: There are two designated seating areas for visitors to sit and rest: one in the bookshop and a quiet space in the library.
Group and Guided Visits: The International Centre for the Image welcomes groups of all sizes and interests. We provide scheduled guided tours for small and large groups alike within and outside opening hours. These must be booked in advance. To best accommodate your group, please email us in advance of your visit to office@image.museum.
VISITOR RULES
- Backpacks and large items are not permitted inside the gallery space and must be left at reception.
- Food is not permitted, and drinks are welcome only in the Art Bookshop area.
- Smoking, vaping, loud music, or any behaviour that may disturb the experience of other visitors is not permitted.
- You are expected to respect the works of art on exhibition and not to touch them unless it is explicitly permitted to do so.
- You may use cameras within the venue, respecting the privacy of others. You should familiarise yourself with this rule by reading the FAQ
- The centre is a zero-tolerance space for harassment or other unwelcome behaviour towards our staff and other visitors. We define this behaviour as any behaviour that is unwelcome or offensive to the individual on the receiving end. Anyone exhibiting these behaviours will be asked to stop or leave. We will not hesitate to contact An Garda Síochána.

FAQ about the International Centre for the Image
How long will my visit take?
The duration of visits depends on the level of interest and engagement of each visitor. They can range from 20 minutes to hours. An average visit to the exhibition should take about an hour.
Outside of the listed opening hours, when might you be closed?
We may occasionally close or restrict access outside of the listed opening hours to accommodate certain events. We will always post about these instances on our social media and website.

Is there a secure area to leave my belongings?
There is a designated space at reception where visitors are welcome to leave large personal belongings. The area is covered by CCTV cameras and staffing.
The International Centre for the Image and PhotoIreland accepts no responsibility for any lost or stolen items on its premises.
Do you have a cafe on site? Am I allowed to bring in my food and drink?
There are various cafes in the vicinity of the International Centre for the Image. There is a designated space in the Art Bookshop area where visitors can sit down to enjoy their drink.
No food, alcoholic drinks or smoking is allowed on the premises.
Can I take photos/videos?
Still photography and video are permitted strictly for personal and non-commercial use. You must be considerate to staff and other visitors and consider not photographing or filming people without their previous consent. Equipment such as tripods and the use of professional video and camera equipment are not permitted without prior written consent.
How can I stay up to date and know what’s on?
All events and exhibitions are listed on the What’s On page on our website and promoted on our social media. You can subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date or email office@image.museum ahead of your visit to find out if it coincides with any events.
Are your exhibitions suitable for young audiences?
We are committed to the support and development of a wide range of artists who may at times engage with serious themes, some of which may not be easily accessible to younger audiences. You can read more about each exhibition on our What’s On page to be informed ahead of your visit.
We welcome visitors of all ages and run family-friendly events, including mediation of exhibitions. These would be listed on the What’s On page. Please, contact us directly if you are visiting with a young person and require more information than is available on our website.
