Launch of OVER Journal
issues 4 and 5
PhotoIreland launches two new issues of OVER Journal at the International Centre for the Image.
Join us for the launch of OVER Journal issues 4 and 5 at the International Centre for the Image. The launch will coincide with the official opening of the centre’s two new exhibitions, David Farrell’s Solastalgia and Cristina De Middel’s Journey to the Center. David Farrell was previously featured in issue 1, and Cristina De Middel has contributed with a very personal text to issue 5.
With the support of the Arts Council of Ireland, co-editors Julia Gelezova, Ángel Luis González Fernández, Aidan Kelly Murphy, and Erik Vroons have produced two new issues of the journal, offering an in-depth review of selected themes that define contemporary photographic practices today. Issue 5 is a special FUTURES Photography Platform issue, co-funded by the European Union, with guest-editors Světlana Malina (Festival & Gallery director, Fotograf Zone), Emese Mucsi (curator, Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center), and Raphaëlle Stopin (director, Centre Photographique Rouen Normandie). It is dedicated to the talents represented by the platform, of which PhotoIreland is the Irish member.
OVER Journal critically focuses on aspects often overlooked that affect the discipline, zooming out to observe the whole scene, to analyse what exactly is happening, and what power relationships are at play. It is about preventing the repetition of obsolete and flawed structures, as much as highlighting the work of those who are constructively expanding what we still call Photography into new horizons. More than a portfolio magazine, it is a space for reflection on new practices and new ways of thinking.
