Sammys is a project that comes together at the intersection of food and identity. We have been investigating, creating, and documenting the sandwich intake of a variety of individuals. We have involved people with drastic backgrounds, careers, and identities. The purpose of this project is to show a parallel representation of who we are by what we eat. In this chaotic climate, we may be led to think the world is divided, that rifts between people and cultures cannot be bridged. They want us to think we are split apart by everything that surrounds us. Yet, food is, and has always been, a vehicle to unite people, to overcome differences and share cultures and customs. We hope, with this project, to intersect identities that may seemingly, have nothing in common if not for a favorite sandwich. In doing this we highlight the nuances and complex identities through the simplicity found in the layers in between two slices of bread.

About the Artists
Caterina Ragg is an Italian photo editor, photographer, and graphic designer currently based in Milan. Caterina has a BA in Interior Design from Politecnico di Milano. Caterina lived in Buenos Aires for a year, also traveling through South America, where she decided to approach the world of storytelling and photojournalism. In September 2013 Caterina graduated with an MA in Photojournalism at University of Westminster in London, where she developed a more conceptual approach to documentary photography. In the past years Caterina has focused on curating visual content and strategies, managing archives, and producing impactful editorial designs for diverse clients, including luxury brands and independent publishers. She is interested in telling stories about social and personal issues, especially dealing with themes connected to identity and transformations.

Adriana Monsalve (she /they) is an artist, educator, cultural worker and collaborative publisher working (mostly) in the photobook medium. Along with Caterina Ragg, Monsalve is co-founder of Homie House Press, a radical cooperative platform that challenges the ever-changing forms of storytelling with image and text. Within her photographic practice, Monsalve is an archivist and visual communicator who produces in-depth stories on identity through the nuances in between race, gender, and immigrant adjacent experiences.

Homie House Press is a sisterhood, an evolving plan, and a sci-fi sequence where historically underrepresented folx are equipped with the tools to create + publish in the foto book medium. We are visual recorders navigating the current moment with a wolfpack mentality. Community over everything means that we confront with care. We are color-nerd, glitter-obsessed, sticker collectors.
