Welcome, Passerby (2008-2010) and String of Pearls (2010-2014) focus on small communities undergoing great changes; one appears to be approaching the end of its history, the other is in a process of rapid transformation. Hamilton’s process is similar to that of an ethnographer, spending long periods of time at a particular site. She is interested in making visible the process of change, using photography as a subjective testimony.
About the Artist
Kerstin Hamilton is an artist, researcher, curator and teacher. Since 2024, she works with a postdoc project in photography and natural sciences at the Hasselblad Foundation and the University of Gothenburg. She holds a PhD in artistic practice and teaches at the BA and MA in Photography programs at the Film, Photography and Literary Composition Unit, HDK-Valand, University of Gothenburg.
