The book Speedway Zohor is a story of speed, courage, determination, and friendship, drawing on David Mackovič’s grandparents’ preserved photo archive, supplmented by Mackovič’s own photographs, the memories of eyewitnesses, and texts by speedway racing experts. The key to working with the archive is a single fictional race day, around which the story of the Zohor speedway, managed by Zohor Automobile Sports Club for nearly twenty years, unfolds. The individual stages of the day take viewers through the construction of the track, behind-the-scenes preparations, the lineup at the start, and the race itself. By putting on their helmets, the racers add to the excitement of the event and set off on a fast ride without brakes.

About the Artist
David Mackovič is an analog photographer and cyclist currently based in Brno, Czech Republic. Mackovič has an interest in documentary photography and often works in city landscape and nature environments taking pictures of cyclists and motorbike riders.
