Using the immediate surroundings as a setting for an artistic exploration, this series infiltrates various buildings in northern Spain, frozen in limbo, known as “unfinished constructions.” These are unfinished structures that constitute a kind of contemporary ruin. The intervention serves to reactivate the space, generating a new reality within.
The material used throughout the series is the abandoned construction site’s own protective barriers: wooden slats painted with fluorescent pigment, commonly used in construction for its reflective properties. These barriers are moved and reconfigured to generate balanced compositions, in an ephemeral harmony where the elements support one another, forming a whole inscribed in the space.
Scale is lost in the absence of human reference. This alteration of reality, enhanced through photographic reproduction, fosters a shift in the rules in which the viewer’s imagination takes center stage.

About the Artist
Nicolás Combarro’s work is based on research into the process of transforming built space. By reflecting on and interacting with the constructions and the materials in the environment he is working on through photography, drawing or sculpture, he searches for the essence of the form, playing with its inorganic nature towards an organic reinterpretation.
