The all too personal mournings and losses eventually fall into minor ideas or perhaps into something else entirely: a quiet persistence, a soft residue. They silently irritate, showing all the life that has passed because of time, consolation lost in the endgame, innocence, or what you may call naivety.
This book is not about innocence, but about the mourning of it, or perhaps the never-ending search for it, how it slips away and how we try, tenderly, to piece it back together. The photographs come from wandering, from looking at the in-betweens, the light, the traces of something just passed or about to arrive.
Images have a memory mostly particular to those who take a close look. To know these memories is to know, more or less, all the hope that something soft can be rebuilt, even after it’s been taken apart too many times. They don’t aim to show the thing itself, but the suggestion of it, the meaning left open, fragile, something the viewer must find in their own way.

About the Artist
Ali Beşikçi (1997, Istanbul), is an artist and publisher based in Rome.
His work moves between making and editing, often blurring the line between the two. He is interested in the in betweens, in the ambiguous, in images that do not resolve immediately, that remain open, that ask for time and attention.
He photographs and, from time to time, works with sound, but the book remains his primary medium. He makes works driven by oniric associations and broken poetic sequences, where fragments, repetitions, and shifts construct a narrative.
Through both his artistic and editorial practice, he looks for ways to create spaces where images can exist beyond their initial intention, where they can shift, expand, and take on new meanings through the viewer’s engagement.

About the Publisher
ZONE is an independent book publisher and photography based visual arts platform run by its founder, Ali Beşikçi. Started in the summer of 2018 as a personal research project, the aim of ZONE is to cultivate a variety of dialogues between artists and their audience, as well as supporting them with printed and online publications.
They make monographs, artists’ books and other collective creatures. They are drawn to works that suggest instead of showing, that whisper instead of shouting, that reach light through a deep exploration of darkness.
