The lesser Streams of Place is an ongoing project that proposes an artist’s responsibility to document local places. It focuses on everyday scenes that are often overlooked and especially those that have changed or disappeared over time. By capturing these moments, the work focuses in on a certain aesthetic that might otherwise be lost. The photographs are self-reflexive, exploring identity, social habits, and act as a rough guide of the everyday private spaces of homes and businesses in County Longford, in Ireland’s midlands. Taken over a number of years, the photographs were made faithfully, spontaneously, and opportunistically, guided by curiosity and instinct. These spaces hold an intrinsic value in regards to social and cultural anthropology. The photographer challenges what we think of as familiar and highlights the shared experiences found in ordinary places, especially those that disappear quietly, helping to represent and remember them.
