Published as a catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the same name, What you want in life visually represents the forms of emotions that emerged and were captured as artist Youngjin Kim concentrated on her inner self during then-recent psychological consultations. The process of figuring out her mind was to look for emotions hidden behind the shadows of past memories. While accepting the uneasiness and feeling of embarrassment arising as she materialised and expressed the memories and emotions using words, Youngjin tried to convey the process of exposing them.
The exhibition comprised photogram drawings and installations presenting the images that occurred to Youngjin in their counselling sessions. The photogram drawings demonstrate the process of tracing back the passages of unknown fear and anxiety that they felt, and going through trials and errors searching for the meanings of life.
How is fear created and disappears? Fear is about what people feel, what matters to them, what they want, and what disappoints them. This work hopes to develop into an attempt to break down the silence over fear, which appears to be a personal problem, as something public and universal.

About the Artist
Youngjin Kim is a South Korean artist. She uses transparent elements such as light, memory, and glass that are invisible but clearly present, such as memories and emotions in the space experienced in daily life, to depict the traces of emotions that remain only as images. She mainly uses photograms, a photographic technique that is expressed only with light, photographic paper, and objects without a camera lens. For Youngjin, a photogram does not reproduce the external appearance of an object on photographic paper through the light of a magnifier, but functions as a medium and medium through which the image or traces behind the object are expressed.
