“Hong Kong Top Sights — Animal Walk”
This photobook is set in Deer Island Village, a place where “nothing ever happened.” Everything seems calm and natural, yet beneath the surface hides an unnamed connection. Two people meet again at a wedding abroad. Both are careful with their emotions, yet both end up wasting them on each other — no eye contact, no real talk, no confirmation. Only blank spaces where the camera turns away, and delayed replies in a Facebook chat. He is like a lone deer, handsome, alert, unwilling to be approached. She is a visitor, carrying dreams and a camera, trying to get closer but stepping back when she sees the shadow of a bear. They look for the bear together, but only see each other’s backs. They walk into an oasis, sharing no language but only silence. It is not love, nor loss, but two people who don’t fit the world, practicing loneliness through each other. She learns to talk to herself; he learns what it means to be seen. In the end, she walks toward herself, and he stays outside the frame. Deer Island Village has no story — only wind, sunlight, grass, and an unnamed regret, like a photo without his face, still holding proof that he once existed.
