This book tells the story of four generations of women through text and photographs. But above all, it is a discourse on the author’s search for and construction of her own identity, her past and present. These are self-portraits and photographs of her grandmother; photographic recreations taken years later in the same places where the first ones were taken; her grandmother’s diaries and her own—the elements with which the author constructs a mosaic of family histories in which she situates her own story, linking photography and memory, photography and experiences. Twelve years of work obsessively reconstructing her own album, her childhood—spread between Spain, Austria, and Mexico—delving into the past and narrating the present, speak to her profound need to find an identity.

The book’s discourse straddles the line between obsession and conscious action. It is a sincere chronicle of one’s own existence. The author and her grandmother, united by a deep complicity, strip away all that is accessory and bravely stand naked before the silent and relentless mirror of the camera, offering us moving images in which they reveal their bodies in an intimate act of affection. They ask themselves, and we ask them, about the fundamental aspects of one’s existence: emotions, body, identity, heritage, family, love… A work that addresses the most intimate questions of human nature, while simultaneously telling the life stories of the four women protagonists around three fundamental axes: home, body, and memory.
